PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Works in the DPL Substation Engineering group.  Designs and Engineers jobs for construction within substations and works with the team to streamline procedures and improve overall function of the group while mentoring its team members on future development.  Also develops and/or leads teams in studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, performance assessments, integrated systems analysis, cost estimates, budgets, associated with the planning, design, licensing, construction, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of Exelon's electric generation, transmission, distribution, and telecommunication facilities/systems. Provides analytical support, consultation and recommendations to the Company within and to other business units and/or customers as a result of studying company or customer-owned systems, processes, equipment, vehicles or facilities. Reviews financial data from budget and actual costs of projects. Provides technical expertise to strategic, legislative and operational decisions. Participates in creating, updating, and applying internal/industry standards and technology in a specialized area of expertise. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads and performs engineering tasks and projects associated with a critical or analytical engineering project or a small number of complex projects that require specialized knowledge in many areas, may include field testing troubleshooting, and peer review.
  • Performs assignments in areas where engineering precedents are incomplete, lacking or require broad experience. 
  • Evaluates, develops and implements projects that have significant financial and operational impact, may also develop initial commissioning plans
  • Plans, writes and performs tasks for documentation deliverables and projects
  • Participates in department planning, through field/site walkdowns, attend meetings/conference calls, provide budget recommendations and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
  • Serves as an expert in specialized area
  • Acts as an expert witness or provide expert opinions as required
  • Performs assignments while acting independently and will lead multi-discipline teams, may include providing direct oversight of contractors 
  • Provides recommendations to management and implements action plans to improve performance and cost effectiveness. 
  • Participates in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in areas of company interest. 
  • Provides detailed technical training, mentorship, peer review, and/or guidance to others

  • Working alongside the engineers in Substation Engineering with complex designs
  • Provides technical assistance in support of other teams
  • Influence project decisions that have a significant impact on the company.
  • Applies technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field (non-engineer) (1) or equivalent relevant education / experience (See Section Below) (2) AND 4+ years of field experience in engineering, construction, or applicable utility experience. (1) Examples of technical fields (non-engineer) include Engineering Technology, Electronics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, etc. (2) Relevant education / experience is knowledge and skills that may be acquired through job experiences or education programs related to those acquired through a formal technical degree program. Examples include experience gained in a military role applicable to electric power distribution, completion of a journey-level electrician program (e.g., overhead / underground electrician, electrical mechanic), or completion of a company-sponsored technical education program (e.g., Elements of Electrical Engineering (E3) series). The equivalent relevant education / experience is in addition to the position's minimum experience requirements.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply problem-solving approaches.
  • Knowledge of construction, operations or engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of complex field test equipment.
  • Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform routine assignments for a specific discipline installations, or service.
  • In lieu of degree, 6+ years of relevant experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Clearly demonstrated team leadership abilities on critical projects.
